Position Summary
Development and maintenance of process specifications and procedures. Production support and process improvement including safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction. Coordination of process improvement trials, projects, and new tire or component development at the plant level, including those projects driven by Akron Technical Center (ATC) and the Nashville Corporate Office (Purchasing, PED).
Responsibilities
Quality Improvement
Optimizes production processes by studying current operating conditions, quality, returns and historical data. Implements processing improvements with direction and supervision from Senior PEs and PE Technical Leader. Ensures corporate standards are followed and issues temporary deviations when necessary. Follows 3M trials involving changes to any production process, method, materials, or machine and documents results. Assists in the maintenance of plant process and product specifications through the Tire Engineering Specification System (TESS) or the Aiken Compound Formula System.
Production Support
Provides support to production by attending meetings to review safety, quality, NOT, and waste. Responds to requests from production area for assistance in solving technical machine or process issues. Provides assistance as needed for the startup or modifications of production equipment. Supports efforts to improve and implement bekidou/utilization trends.
Waste Reduction
Provides waste reduction support to production departments by attending daily production meetings to review waste issues and by assisting in the implementation of countermeasures. Identifies methods to reduce waste and coordinates trials and or training as necessary. Dispositions abnormal components and materials under the direction of Senior PEs and PE Technical Leader to minimize waste generation. Coordinates and completes projects to reduce cost as assigned by the PE Technical Leader.
Corporate driven projects
Provides support to ATC and PED trial requests by ordering required raw materials, creating recipes in the specification system, coordinating and scheduling of trial material preparation, and collecting data and samples. Submits all samples and data requested for review.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent work experience
BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related Engineering discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
1-2 years of engineering experience
