Position Summary
The Senior Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, investigating incidents, and driving proactive risk reduction initiatives throughout the facility. This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Plant Leadership to improve safety performance, strengthen compliance, and support operational excellence.
The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, conduct audits and risk assessments, analyze safety trends, lead training initiatives, and leverage data-driven decision making to reduce injuries and create a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsibilities
In this role, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Partner with manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards and occupational health risks.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and workplace inspections to ensure regulatory and company compliance.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning to prevent recurrence of injuries, illnesses, and near misses.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, injury trends, workers’ compensation data, and regulatory reporting requirements to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections and serve as a liaison with health and safety agencies and external stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for teammates, contractors, and leaders.
- Support emergency preparedness, emergency response planning, and crisis management activities.
- Facilitate safety committees and engagement initiatives that promote teammate involvement and accountability.
- Lead projects and initiatives of diverse scope while working independently with limited supervision.
- Support continuous improvement and automation initiatives that enhance safety performance and operational effectiveness.
- Utilize advanced analytical and technical problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions to existing processes and procedures.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication, collaboration, and influencing skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related health and safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, safety audits, risk assessments, and root cause analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and occupational health and safety principles.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Alternative Education and Experience Requirements:
- Three (3) years of related experience with a Master’s degree; or
- PhD with no prior experience; or
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other relevant safety certification.
- Experience in tire manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, or other high-volume industrial environments.
- Experience supporting safety programs such as lockout/tagout, machine guarding, contractor safety, confined space entry, fall protection, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene.
- Experience leading safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance and sustainability programs.
- Proficiency with safety management systems, reporting tools, and data analytics.
