Position Summary
The Lead Environmental Specialist oversees environmental compliance programs, supports cross-functional teams, manages regulatory reporting, and drives continuous improvement in environmental incident performance. This includes managing and analyzing product chemical and environmental incident data to support compliance reporting and decision-making.
Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Monitoring & Compliance Management
- Monitor and interpret environmental regulations (local, national, international) to ensure organizational compliance.
- Develop and maintain environmental compliance programs aligned with internal policies and external standards (e.g., ISO 14001, TSCA, REACH).
2. Data Management, Analysis & Reporting
- Manage and analyze product chemical and environmental incident data to support reporting and performance tracking.
- Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, regulatory submissions, and correspondence.
- Develop dashboards and tools to monitor key metrics.
3. Auditing, Incident Management & Risk Mitigation
- Support internal and external environmental audits, verifications, and inspections.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to environmental incidents to identify potential compliance risks.
4. Training, Communication & Awareness
- Develop and deliver corporate environmental compliance training to internal teams.
- Communicate regulatory updates and compliance expectations across departments.
- Promote awareness of environmental responsibilities and best practices.
5. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding environmental compliance, including chemical composition of products and packaging.
- Serve as a liaison with external agencies, industry groups, and regulatory bodies.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Participate as Global Environmental Working Group EMS Task Force Member
- Communicate, Drive and Track EMS TF Requirements to ensure conformance implementation.
- Collaborate across Bridgestone business units to align environmental compliance efforts.
- Drive continuous improvement in environmental compliance processes and systems.
7. EMS Management & Document Control
- Support implementation and maintenance of BSAM’s Environmental Management System (EMS)
- Author, update, and manage environmental standards and documentation.
- Ensure alignment of EMS processes across business units and maintain document control protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent work experience.
