Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Our Commitment to DE&I

At Bridgestone Americas, we are building a team as diverse as the world we serve. We believe in championing all perspectives, individuals and teams because we understand the importance of seeing the world and our business through the eyes of many. To do this, we are creating a workplace that fosters a culture of acceptance where you are Free to Be your true self because what we need is who you are, unchanged by the feeling that you might need to be a certain way to “fit in.” Being your true self is what matters in life – and that matters to us.

We encourage this inclusiveness through teammate support, advocacy and education, and we expect accountability at all levels.

That accountability extends to our supply chains and industry networks. We commit to operate with a supplier base that is representative of our teammates, consumers, retail customers and communities.  We expect our partners to understand that these values are not just to help our teammates thrive in the workplace, but because we want to be a part of a better humanity outside the workplace, as well.

Employee Inclusion & Belonging

To nurture this culture of acceptance, we are building alliances for awareness and change by understanding our strengths and seeking to improve our gaps. The last time we surveyed our teammates, 72% believed Bridgestone values and promotes diversity. We are looking to build on that confidence and bring that number even higher.

We are committed to fostering a culture that is truly inclusive, inspiring and trusting. Learning, understanding and sharing knowledge and awareness are critical to building and sustaining this positive culture. We created Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to promote a culture of diversity.  These groups create safe spaces where we bring teammates and allies together based on shared characteristics, life experiences and interests. ERGs are open to everyone – all of us together, learning from and supporting one another is the whole point. Whether you are an ally or share the defining characteristic for the ERG itself, your participation plays a vital role in helping us recognize, learn from and value both our differences and our similarities.

As of today, over 2,000 teammates and 12 Executive Sponsors actively participate in one or more of Bridgestone’s six ERGs: BBOLD (Black/African Americans), B~UNIDOS (Latinx), BWIN (Women), BRAVO (Veterans), BPROUD (LGTBQ+) and BNEXTGEN (Young Professionals). We also offer a path for additional groups to be formed when championed by our teammates, ensuring inclusivity for all.

Employee Growth

As our teammates grow in understanding and education, our development initiatives can evolve to further our commitment to equity and inclusion. We are committed to helping our teammates grow in their careers by offering transparency of opportunities for teammates at all levels.

We offer internal training programs, targeted development programs for women and year-round professional development planning focused on the individual. Teammates have the opportunity to attend instructor-led and eLearning courses that include material aimed at understanding unique perspectives and ways of working.

Fostering our Workplace Culture

To foster a culture of care and inclusion, we recognize that different teammates have different needs to sustain a healthy life and thus a healthy workplace. We are dedicated to working in ways that are increasingly agile, entrepreneurial and digital. We have different needs-based benefits to care for all our people that include, but are not limited to:

  • Benefit Offerings: Competitive medical, dental, life insurance, 401k vesting, disability protection and paid time off.
  • Needs-Based Benefits: Autism spectrum coverage, transgender services coverage and wellness rooms at corporate locations.
  • Team Assistance Fund: Financial support to teammates during times of need (ex: natural disaster; fire).
  • Maternity Leave: paid medical maternity leave for all new mothers.
  • Safety as a Core Focus: Above all things we believe that safety in the workplace is critical. Our goal is to provide a safe work environment for all.

Working Towards Awareness & Change

We are part of a family of teammates who are uniquely caring, genuine and resilient. Bridgestone Americas is building alliances for awareness and change both inside and outside our walls. We are working with various community groups including sponsorship of diversity-focused professional organizations such as the National Society of Black Engineers, Women in Technology (WiTT) and the Society of Women Engineers. These partnerships help expand our impact on the community and build networks that allow for diverse talent growth.

Our external impact includes a long-standing partnership with United Way and Boys & Girls Clubs, encouraging ERG-led and corporate-led support for local nonprofits and focusing on our sustainability commitments. Bridgestone has received multiple recent awards for our sustainability efforts, including the 2019 Sustainable Tennessee award.

Listening & Learning

Bridgestone aspires and is committed to becoming a place where you can thrive. We are deeply committed to listening to our teammates’ concerns and advocating and striving for continuous improvement. Our culture is caring, genuine, and resilient and with every lesson comes an opportunity to improve. Through pulse points with current employees and interviews with future employees, we’ve adapted and shown our agility. We are always listening and learning and have learned that who you are is what we need. So join us on our journey as we become a sustainable solutions company that moves a diverse world ahead.
